Lots of 阿姨’s

Lots of 阿姨's

An “Auntie” on a bus letting Asher sit down for awhile is a courtesy that we appreciate when offered.  Adults on a bus will occasionally stand up to let a child sit down.  Grandpa’s and grandma’s will often motion for a child to come sit with them.  Total strangers.  At first this was quite foreign to our kids and they wouldn’t take anyone up on their offers 🙂 but as time as gone by and they see other children doing it and as they understand more Chinese they are grateful for the opportunities to sit while riding across the city.

A rare bus ride with so few people!

We tend to frequent places close to home so our bus rides are generally 15 minutes of time spent on the bus.  Another 5-10 minutes walking to the bus stop, another 5-15 waiting for the right bus, and another 5-15 walking to our destination after getting off the bus.  Once a week or so we ride further and are on the bus for up to an hour depending on traffic.  Those days are certainly ones where the Auntie’s, Grandpa’s and Grandma’s offers to share a seat are appreciated!

This is so sweet. I’m so happy to see that you are getting deeply immersed into the Chinese culture. Little things may seem so ordinary for one culture but totally strange for another. Glad that the kids are adapting to it…
