It was probably about 12 years ago that I bought my first cell phone. I remember standing in a small store in Fort Collins, Colorado fascinated and overwhelmed at the choices and options. Nowadays, at least here in China, it feels like everyone has a small phone they carry in their pocket or purse that makes calls, sends texts and even take pictures. Cell phones seem like standard fare.
So, in keeping with the times, here is a sample of my much more modern and dependable, Shopping List. Now that I have been here long enough, to be lucky enough, to find certain products that I want to buy again, I find making a shopping list challenging. Writing down the product, brand, type, etc is not something I am able to do yet in Chinese characters. A simple snap of a picture with my phone keeps my Shopping List easily accessible when I go shopping. Not only that, but having a picture to show to a store clerk if I arrive only to find something is no longer shelved where it was before is most convenient!
As this is something I didn’t do in the states, I can’t decide if I’m being pretty clever utilizing modern technology or I’m just a beginning language student trying to live somewhere I don’t belong 🙂
In either case, at least I can now usually find a local cookie I enjoy!
